Since 2014, I’ve created Hayao Miyazaki-sensei tribute paintings for his birthday every year. So excited to finally paint on these gorgeous card stock I brought back from Japan - each features Mt. Fuji covered in snow with printed metallic gold leaf.

A very Happy 77th Birthday to Hayao Miyazaki-sensei

and 30th Anniversary to Totoro!

This special 2018 edition of Morning Strolls features Miyazaki-sensei

volunteering and cleaning up 'Totoro no Mori' or Totoro's Forest.

In each illustration, Miyazaki-sensei is accompanied by a small Totoro,

picking up one type of trash at a time including

bento boxes, coffee cans, green tea bottle... etc

An active conservationist for the natural, human and imaginary world.

May he live long and make lots more movies!

Morning Strolls - 2017 Edition

Morning Strolls, an annual series of artwork since 2014, illustrating Miyazaki-sensei taking a stroll early in the morning somewhere on the outskirts of Tokyo.

In each image, he’s accompanied by imaginary creatures he has created such as baby Ohmu from Nausicaa, Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Kodama from Princess Mononoke, and Totoro. 

Happy 76th Birthday, Sensei. May you continue to inspire us for years to come.
